Derision

Posted by Terry Nelson on Feb 11th, 2007

In Heaven, I wonder if the just mock and scorn the damned?  I don’t think so.  (That is pretty much the conduct in hell.)

Some Catholics mock and deride sinners and heretics, they even revile Bishops, laughing them to scorn.  They mock the dead.  They condemn sinners and unbelievers.  Sadly, I’ve sinned all too often in the same manner.

The tears of the Madonna, the tears of her Son, suggest to me they do not mock and scorn, rather they weep and mourn for the lost, the ignorant and the erring.

“Happy the man who follows not

the counsel of the wicked,

nor walks in the way of sinners,

nor sits in the company of scorners,

but delights in the law of the Lord

and meditates on his law day and night.” - Psalm 1

…meditates on his law day and night…even when the erring do not.

My Jesus, pardon and mercy through the merits of thy most holy wounds.

Let me just say, I deride heretics in life because even though they have the clear example of the Church in front of them, they choose something else. However, I also pray for their conversion and for mercy for them.

Then take say, John Paul II, whose pontificate I am convinced was the worst in history. I wrote a post titled “The Tragedy of John Paul II”, exhorting all to pray for his soul. It is true that some say these people are going to hell, woe is them, there are many Traditional Catholics who while thumbing our noses at Vatican II, the scandals the innovations and the heresy, also offer up prayers for the souls of those involved. I just want to put in that the criticism of what is wrong does not preclude a prayerful hope in the salvation of those committing the wrongs.

I don’t think anyone in Heaven mocks anyone in hell…

It’s judgemental, none of us is perfect (please!) & we are supposed to pray for everyone, including our enemies (otherwise we are no better than pagans).

Think about the person/people you like the least in the world - God does not want even them to go to hell -

& so we are beholden to pray for our enemies - be they the brainwashed puppets of our culture, their culture, or just someone who seems to have purposely made it their business to make our lives miserable…

the enemy. Do you think, “Ha! ha!” when a particularly odious individual has fatal bad luck? No, you are horrified.

    That’s how I think it will be…

I was a great mocker before my conversion. I took it often to confession in those first years. Mockery is wicked, and poisonous to one’s soul.
