The Genocide
Few people paid much attention to the genocide that took place in Rwanda before the movie “Hotel Rwanda” - just as few people pay much attention to the genocide in Darfur today. Perhaps Roman Catholics who follow the latest apparitions knew of the events in Rwanda and recognized them for what they were because of the prophetic messages to a few children of that country in the 1980’s.
The apparitions and accompanying messages were rather quickly approved as authentic by the local Bishop, while the subsequent genocide pretty well confirmed the lurid prophesies. Spirit Daily linked to a site announcing Vatican approval of a documentary to be shot concerning the apparitions. The messages are sobering in themselves, although the results of the genocide seem much more so, reminding me of what it must have been like to enter the Nazi concentration camps after liberation. Stunned silence is the only reaction one could have had - I think.
From the link Spirit Daily provided, a portion of the messages in the 1980’s:
In one of the messages, Jesus told Emmanuel, ‘Too many people treat their neighbors dishonestly. The world is full of hatred. You will know my Second Coming is at hand when you see the outbreak of religious wars. Then, know that I am on the way.’
In another message, also apocalyptic in nature,
The Virgin Mary said: ‘’There isn’t much time left in preparing for the Last Judgement. We must change our lives, renounce sin. Pray and prepare for our own death and for the end of the world. We must prepare while there is still time. Those who do well will go to Heaven. If they do evil, they will condemn themselves with no hope of appeal. Do not lose time in doing good and praying. There is not much time and Jesus will come.’ - Catholic Apparitions and Miracles has more.
I have pretty much distanced myself from the plethora of mystical phenomena and apparitions that seem to be daily reported, yet there was always something about Rwanda that rang true for me. I’m still deeply impressed. The apparitions, messages, and genocide have given me a different perspective on what is really important in life.
I can’t help thinking of what was said after the Nazi holocaust, “Never again!” - yet it has happened again, and again, and again.
Stunned silence.
