Reading today’s Gospel, the lyrics, “It’s just a kiss away” from the Rolling Stone’s song, “Gimme Shelter” inappropriately came to mind…Spy Wednesday, Judas asks the chief priests, “What are you willing to give me if I hand him over to you?” - Matthew 26
These are dark readings, revealing the capability for evil in men’s hearts - hidden beneath the guise of virtue. The rapacious grasp for power, insatiable greed, exploitation of another to stabilize one’s status, to secure one’s wealth, and destroy anyone who stands in the way.
“‘Denounce! let us denounce him!’ All those who were my friends are on the watch for any misstep of mine. ‘Perhaps he will be trapped; then we can prevail, and take our vengeance on him.’” - Jeremiah 20: 10
“In God I trust, I shall not fear: What can mortal man do to me?
