He lived in the hollow of a tree.

It is said St. Simon lived as a hermit in the hollow of a tree, before entering the order of Carmel. The order was said to be floundering and Our Lady appeared to St. Simon, offering him the brown scapular, as a sign of her protection. He died on this day in 1265.
(After Mass I was going to write more on St. Simon, but Elena did it so well, I suggest you visit her at Tea At Trianon for her version.)
