No News except the weather…

Posted by Terry Nelson on May 23rd, 2007

Today was the first severe storm alert we had in the Twin Cities metro area this year.  The sirens went off mid-afternoon, at first I thought it was simply the monthly test since it is Wednesday.  But they didn’t stop, so I turned on TV, and sure enough, a funnel cloud had been sited in the northern suburbs.  The weatherman was actually shaking with excitement as he traced the storm on the weather map.  It has been live, continuous coverage ever since.  One would think it was Katrina happening all over again.

There was some storm damage, trees down, roofs off, but that’s what a severe storm does.  The entire 6PM news coverage has been nothing but insignificant videos of golf-ball sized hail, and downed trees, okay, a trailer blown onto a minivan, oh, and someone’s backyard trampoline blew into a tree.   Weather is big news.  It’s cheap and easy to fill a half hour with weather news of no consequence.  It is like nothing else happened in the world today around here.

I love severe storms, but this wasn’t that big, of course many people lost power, but it will be restored.  Weather people get you all excited for the big one, and then it just fizzles out.  Oh, well.

Although I did hear that some people were in a bar and their drinks were sucked right out of their hands, but their cigarettes remained undisturbed in the ash tray.

Where’s Mitchell? Mitchell just had a post on Our Word and Welcome to It blog about sports pre-emptions and interruptions on T.V.

What about these pesky non-weather events? They keep busting into my programs, those wild-eyed meteorologists. They get so excited about this stuff as I yawn and wonder when my program will be aired in it’s entiriety? Am I mistaken in thinking that tornadoes have been around since God created the Earth or is tornadic activity a VII spirit thing?

    Cranky Cathy

Weathermen are as accurate as psychics, only somehow they actually got a channel…

whereas psychics only pretend that they do.

Speaking of VII, Pope Benedict just commented on the Spirit of Vatican II blog! (I wonder how I know this)?

This storm, to be fair, really was a bad storm because there WERE touchdowns and people were actually injured as a result of this one.

This wasn’t just a typical severe storm that causes minor flooding and passes on.

Even though it isn’t my job, I can tell you right now that for the next month we’re going to be very busy at work and they might even get the CAT team in to handle all the claims.

You may think it’s nothing…but this kind of weather turns my stomach and makes me wish a tree would fall on my head so that I don’t have to deal with the resulting workload.

Yet another reason to quit my job…I quite literally can’t see damage on a car without feelng like I need to stop and toss my cookies.

Oops….forgot to say….the reporting on tv IS completely OVERKILL for a storm like this.

They are in fact treating this storm as though a suburb was leveled.

We had worse storms last fall…apparently they’ve forgotten.

    Thanks ladies.

I really should have posted that I was also relieved that no one was hurt seriously and the damage wasn’t heavy.

(Although, when I walked into that bar one of the flying cocktail glasses put a huge gash in my forehead. JK)

An honorable wound. Dulce et decorum est, and all that.

WOW that is a BIG storm. There was also another storm of the people variety with the show ‘The View’.

Elisabeth finally got sick of Rosie’s attacks on her. I have put an excerpt from YouTube and my own thoughts on Rosie’s viewpoints on my blog.

Take a peek if you like:).

    Yours in Christ,

    Marie…stay safe.

Marie - LOL! I found that video late last nite.
