Novus Ordo

I found this while looking for items on Our Lady Help of Christians, whose feast it is tomorrow:
On the Feast of Our Lady Help of Christians, exactly 31 years ago tomorrow, for the first time in more than two centuries, a Pope publicly rebuked a prelate by name: Marcel Lefebvre (Speech of Pope Paul VI in the Secret Consistory of May 24, 1976). In this famous speech, Paul VI made his mind clear: “The new Ordo was promulgated in order to replace the old one”. - Rorate Caeli
Lately, it seems to me - many people continue to insist the old rite was never actually meant to be replaced. The comments on the post at Rorate Caeli are interesting.

I attended the TLM at one of the church’s in my Archdiocese on first Friday for several months last year, and actually got a lot out of it. It was difficult following the missal w/the Latin on one side & the English on the other, but it’s do-able. I absolutely LOVE the reverence inherent in the celebration of the TLM and how everyone present was focused on Christ instead of each other (or themselves). That said, I still prefer the Novus Ordo IF it can be celebrated properly (and there seems to be a lot of discord on what “properly” is). It’s a real gift to have the Mass celebrated in the vernacular. But I wouldn’t mind Latin sprinkled throughout IF our pastors actually taught what it meant. I’m very much looking forward to the new English translations, supposedly adhering more closely to the original Latin.

Well, I haven’t seen the comments at Rorate Caeli, but what about the following from Paragraph 4 of Sacrosanctum Concilium — the teaching of Vatican II, as opposed to the “spirit of Vatican II:
4. Lastly, in faithful obedience to tradition, the sacred Council declares that holy Mother Church holds all lawfully acknowledged rites to be of equal right and dignity; that she wishes to preserve them in the future and to foster them in every way.
