The New Age crucifix - Not.

Posted by Terry Nelson on Jun 12th, 2007

This is an example of the so-called New Age crucifix that was reported on Spirit Daily, which I commented on in my previous postQuick! Emily Rose!  Call the exorcist!

The crucifix, obviously an older style, as it appears here could be of French design, maybe even bastardized Celtic, or simply Italian Renaissance decorations - whatever its origins, it is NOT New Age.  The standard behind the corpus, with the snake, clearly symbolizes the pole Moses erected in the desert, mounting a bronze serpent atop - as God commanded, which prefigured the crucifixion of Christ on the cross.  Read your Bibles! (Numbers 21: 4-9 and John 3:14)

To use St. Teresa’s words, “I don’t understand these fears, ‘The devil!  The devil!’, when we can say, ‘God!  God!’, and make the devil tremble.” - Life, Ch 25,22.

(Thanks to Jeffrey for the link to the sketch.)

The worst part of it is the fact that the sketch was done to highlight the supposedly questionable content. It’s even harder to figure out what they’re talking about when you actually see one of the rosaries.

Terry - After reading your posting I couldn’t help but think too, that even if this particular crucifix style has some legitimate Catholic symbolism & history, it does not mean that these symbolisms are not being “redefined” by a pagan, or an occult sub-culture, or out of someone’s wild ignorance.

So with that said, perhaps M. Brown should be sent the information Jeffrey uncovered. It would help him and possibly SD readers. Educating them will providing them w/material that they will be able to share w/other Catholics and non-Catholics who come upon this stylized crucifix.

W/that said, the Catholic rosary & prayers are being reformulated and redesigned by several groups these days … so I can understand how some Catholics start to question something they have never seen before.

Today M. Brown has an article on the “Cosmic Rosary” and of course my favorite is the HerChurch Lutheran Rosary …

… thanks for sharing your thoughts

I have a bunch of rosary’s with crucifixes that look very similar to your sketch. I got them from the World Apostolate of Fatima, a.k.a. The Blue Army… hardly a New Age organization (unless you think they might be involved in a New Age/Masonic conspiracy).

Of course, I have no idea where they got the rosaries.

I snapped a picture I was going to send you, but no email address. I assume you can see my addy in the box up there even though it’s not published, so email me if you want to see the pic.
