Shake up at the Chancery?
Posted by Terry Nelson on Sep 21st, 2007
I just got the following email:
Hi Terry — just a quick question, have you heard of the changes at
the Chancery? I came home today to an e-mail informing me that Sr. Fran and a dozen plus other people have accepted early retirement packages. Is this true?
Does anyone know if something is going on at the chancery for the Archdiocese of St. Paul/Minneapolis? I don’t work at Leaflet Missal anymore, so I’m no longer exposed to the hot-line of gossip that goes on there.
[BTW - I don't really care, I just thought readers may care and some may know if this is true.]

Hey! I’m the guy that’s supposed to have the news blog covering local stuff. What are you doing horning in on my turf?
You’re supposed to specialize in baring your soul (and body)[or should I say "bodies", there have been so many incarnations of you].
But with respect to your question, Archbishop Flynn’s birthday is May 2. That means that he will turn 75 in 223 days “and a wakeup” (as we used to say when we were getting out of the Army).
So time is getting short and I would imagine that they would like to remove as many employees as they can in the year 2007.

Next May should be a good month to have a party!
We have the following birthdays scheduled:
May 7: Cathy of Alexandria
May 16: Terry of Dogwood Cottage
May 25: Fr. Bill Baer of SJV
May 26: The Ironic Catholic
May 27: Moi
May 30: St Joan of Arc’s Feast Day (We could join the Joannies for Mass)
and for good measure:
June 20: Adoro Te Devote
June 22: The Roamin’ Roman

well, if true, it sound similar to the Catholic Spirit announcement early this Fall concerning the numerous principals retiring and on the new ones manning the helm. Shakeup? Perhaps it is just a cycle in time. many have been there for decades and it may be their time to retire or feel the need to move on, or it is do to budgets & need to reorganize. Whatever it is, new blood and regrouping can be very invigorating while challenging too.
Kinda inspires me to have a Fall re-organization in my own house …
Ray - where is Mother’s Day on that list?

41!

I’m taking the number 41 to mean 41 people got their walking papers. If this is true - shouldn’t this be a major news item?

I would think so, but I don’t have any information but the number and that it happened a couple of weeks ago.
This is part of the big announcement that came a year or so ago so it wasn’t totally unexpected although certain people (who I don’t know) probably were surprised to be on the list. It was an “early retirement” offer they couldn’t refuse. I’m still a newbie at this chancery gossip stuff. I only know the names of about three or four people over there, only two of whom I’ve “howdied” with.
My source, who doesn’t work in the chancery, smiled approvingly as he told me.
I think that all folks in the field in most organizations think that “headquarters staffs” like those in the USCCB and the various chanceries are overstaffed to a great extent.
I’ve searched the Spirit, Google News, the Strib and the PPD but can’t seem to find the articles from last year.

Terry: The Coadjutor had a throw away comment in his column in the Catholic Spirit where he mentioned central office restructuring. I take that to mean the Chancery.
