San Felipe de Jesus de las Casas
A Franciscan, born in Mexico of Spanish parents, professed in the Phillipines, St. Philip was the first of the martyrs of Nagasaki to die, in 1597. Crucified and pierced with lances, his foot rest gave way and he strangled. He died uttering the Holy Name of Jesus. He is also commemorated on February 6th in the new calendar. - Read more.

What a hideous way to die. It always amazes me that the martyrs’ last words invariably are directed towards the person of Christ. If someone pierced & crucified me, I’m ashamed to write what I’d be saying!
