Protecting the little ones.
“Let the children come to me.”
In his Sunday Angelus address, the Holy Father mourned the death of two young boys, whose bodies had been found in a cistern; they had been missing for over a year.
The Pope described the situation as “A very sad end, that affected me deeply as it did many people. I wish to take this opportunity to launch a cry in support of childhood: Let us look after our little ones! We must love them and help them to grow. I say this to parents, but also to institutions. In launching this appeal, my thoughts go to children all over the world, and especially to the most defenseless, exploited and abused. I entrust each child to the heart of Jesus who said: ‘Let the little children come to me’”. - CNS
I’m so pleased the Holy Father takes note of these crimes against children. The Italian boys were 11 and 13 years old at the time of their disappearance, yet children of all ages are abused and murdered with increasing frequency these days. I read a report recently about German women killing unwanted newborns:
Cases of mothers killing their children occur almost monthly in Germany, and people are starting to ask why. A state governor has caused outrage by suggesting it may be the legacy of East Germany’s communist rule, which has given women there what he describes as “a more casual approach to new life.” - Spiegel Online
In the U.S. young women are known to do the same thing. It is extremely sad, as are the stories of those children who survive and grow up in abusive homes.
