Homeschoolers outlawed in California…

Posted by Terry Nelson on Mar 10th, 2008

Mom and dad the criminals.

I know this is a serious subject and that it has been attempted in Europe - especially in Germany.   Now California  seems to have made a giant leap forward in making homeshools illegal, and even the Govenor is not happy  about it.  We will have to watch and see what happens, since the outrage is growing  over the California ruling…

That said, I know the issue is not funny, but every-time I come across news reports covering the story, I immediately imagine railroad cattle-cars of homeschooling mothers, dressed in t-shirts and denim jumpers, being hauled off to concentration camps.

    You naughty boy.

Thanks for linking to that petition; everyone should sign it!

Thanks for not getting angry Elena - I’m just teasing about the jumpers. And yes - it is very serious, which is why I linked to the petition.

I think the movement to control or eliminate homeshooling has to be one of the clearest signs we have that our freedoms are being taken away and government is changing to totalitarianism.

As I have said before, I own NO denim jumpers!! I have never owned one. I do own a stockade of sweatshirts and sweat pants though. Kinda makes the jumpers seem like a few steps up :)

Homeschooling has also been in the news in Nebraska; there is proposed legislation to require testing of the students. Not sure what to think of that. In general I am supportive of the home-schoolers. This may be yet another attempt to pick on them (for sure California is picking on them, to the point of trying to shut them down). Yet I realize that there are people, who for their children’s sake, shouldn’t be attempting it. Is there a place for some non-prejudicial accountability, somewhere along the line?

LOVE IT! LOL — and I’m a homeschooling veteran of 23 years!

I just had to de-lurk on this one to let you know that some of us do try to appear more chic than shabby. :-P

Thank you for linking to this story and to the HSLDA petition. And I like WIJs - Women in Jumpers. I can’t wait to an army of WIJs rally on the steps of the capitol! Reminds me of Garrison Keilor’s piece about Lutheran street gangs in NYC …
