You know, even though I like Pope Benedict, it took me a while to get used to him. Now three years into his papacy, I have the greatest of admiration. He has never felt compelled (to my knowledge) to imitate John Paul II. Instead, he has freely and transparently applied his own thinking and personality to his papacy without any apologies. He doesn’t feel any pressure to be liked or to be thought of as “nice.”
I remember when JP II passed away missing him for the longest time. It was similar to losing a father.

True story - about 1 1/2 years ago I obtained a JPII memorial rosary from a bid site (okay, it was the Goodwill site)for my Polish Catholic friend. Somehow, I kept misplacing it and couldn’t even give it to her for Christmas - she doesn’t like secrets, so she knew it was coming. ANYWAY, it was “found” several times, and always put in a safe place until I could see her again. Well, it remained lost since the last time I put it somewhere safe. Just the other day, and the day’s significance escaped me until I saw it here … I FOUND the rosary!!! Yes, on the anniversary of the passing of His Holiness!!! (I think this qualifies as a miracle even though I’m not Catholic
