I’m so excited!

Today Pope Benedict will be here - in the United States!
See, I tried not to think about it much before this, and I pretended to be very cool about the whole thing, very non-chalant, you know. “Yeah, so? The pope is coming? That’s fine.” Yawn.
BUT NO! Not now! He will be here today! I spontaneously woke up during the night to pray for his visit! And I’m so excited. (He’s my dad!)
A tear… traces it down his cheek.

I’m SO HAPPY!
“Georg, call Susan and tell her though I know she called Pres. Bush and the Papal Nuncio offering to do my laundry, which I appreciate, she is a doll (Ok, I added that part), and I’m certain she possesses a talent at “laundry”, I need my papal whites to remain white. I know how it would go, by the departure ceremony I’d be wearing pink. And, Georg, when her husband dies, we might like to speed up his canonization, what with the pink socks and such.”
Georg: “Note to self: call Terry, I like his new clerical fashions.”

I emailed my old Protocol boss at Andrews, asking her to make sure His Holiness receives an extra special warm welcome (and a big hug & kiss from me!).
She replied, “I don’t think they’ll let me that close to him, but I can sure yell loud for ‘ya!” LOL!

The Pope was last in the States in 1984, as Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger. He cleared his official schedule to have a day in New York, where he visited the Episcopal Cathedral of St. John the Devine, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and its “medievally furnished Cloisters Museum.”

A guy my husband works with snidely asked him what kind of Catholic my husband was since he isn’t in D.C. to see the Pope. My husband said he was a poor Catholic ;}
It really is exciting and Pope Bene is totally cool!! Welcome!

I’ve been thinking about “Dad” all day today–hope they are treating him well and he is comfortable. And I’m praying for his safety. If I would have gotten tickets to one of the Masses–I’d be in New York today. Oh, Well I’ll just have to watch our beloved “Dad” on TV.
