New Age gone mainstream.
Oprah’s entire show today was dedicated to past life regression.
I imagine Oprah fans will be coming out in droves with stories of their own past lives now. I got into this stuff when I was about 20 - my friend Jim told me he had been a monk in Russia before the revolution, and I was convinced I had been Tsar Nicholas - which, if it was possible, could have explained why I’m such an idiot in this life. Anyway, we figured all of this out after we saw the movie Nicholas and Alexandra. (Our other friends were all from the lost continent of Atlantis.)
I love myth! And no - I do not believe in reincarnation.
(I’ll bet Monica watched!)

The counterfeits are definitely out there to entice those who can’t be satisfied without that extra little something –- they want their ears tickled. Oprah is so confused, and is leading so many others into confusion. We’re going to have to pray even more for her, because she’s rounding up one heck of a big millstone and seems determined to roll it down to the sea.
Is there any truth at all in the idea of past lives? I think there is, but I believe in resurrection, not reincarnation. From what we know about the resurrected body (as demonstrated by Our Lord and promised to us on the Last Day) and from what we know about the communion of saints, it may be possible to “know” details about another person’s life. (That could explain why there is more than one Cleopatra or Alexander the Great . . . heh, heh!)
But we have been so damaged by original sin, that if there is any actual bit of truth in the experience of “past lives,” we do not have the ability to safely acquire or use such intimate knowledge while we are in our fallen state. Like children warned not to play with matches, we are forbidden all forms of occult practice because they are dangerous to us, and can even kill us.
I think it is far more likely that people who claim to have experienced past lives are deceived. Whether produced by their own imaginations or received by demonic suggestion, these are false perceptions either way. What is true about a “past life” may be only what is true about similar symbolic images found in dream states.
Reincarnation is a multiple counterfeit: Heaven is the final end for those who are perfected by the grace of God — but reincarnation promises enlightenment in the end to those who must perfect themselves. In heaven we will fully enjoy the communion of saints and whatever we wonder about will be instantly known — but past-life regression offers only vague “insights” and unreal relationships. In heaven we will truly be united to Christ and to one another — past-life regression only allows for confusing shadows of others’ lives mistaken for the subject’s own. In heaven we will know Who God is and who we are and we will be united to our Source — while reincarnation proposes to help us “remember” that we are a bit of the divinity, so we can return to our divine state.
God have mercy . . . our poor brothers and sisters are like so many lemmings, following Oprah over the cliff to drown in the sea of deception.

Hi Ronnie! We knew each other in a past life of sorts! LOL! Good to hear from you!

This would be so funny… if it wasn’t so sad! I think Oprah has lost it. Very sad! Let’s pray for her! God bless! Padre Steve, SDB

I didn’t see the show, but are we certain Oprah actually believes this? Or was she merely interviewing folks who believe in this? There’s a difference. I’m not an Oprah fan (especially since she started pushing that “Course in Miracles” stuff), but I think as a professional journalist we should give her the benefit of the doubt. (Did I just say that?)

Terry:
In this life, I don’t watch Oprah. I don’t even think a reincarnated me would watch Oprah
And, no mention of Shirley McLain? I’m certain she and Oprah must’ve been chums in a past life.

Jeron - I’m pretty sure Oprah believes in it - because I think she is hoping to be really thin in the next life.
