When I wrote about the Cafeteria…

I did not want to expose Gerald to this.

(Actually, I’m pretty sure it isn’t my fault - but anyway…)  When he returned from Europe, he was surprised by all the negative email as regards his personal positions on gay people.  As a result, he is thinking of deleting his blog.  NO, no, no Amy Winehouse!  You keep going.

In a couple of previous posts here,  I pointed out the incongruity of Gerald’s “evolved” thought on gay people in order to demonstrate how easily our emotions, our friendships, even our marriages can affect our thinking.  In other words, how the gay agenda has infiltrated Catholic thought.

We are all so immersed in the world that we easily become affected (infected) by worldly thought - which leads to compromise and permissiveness - even in the best of us.  This in no way implies Gerald is a bad Catholic - all of us can veer off track.  To demonize him is totally wrong.  If he holds views in opposition to Church teaching, then let him be admonished, but certainly not tarred and feathered.  People - we have bishops in office who are genuine heretics - keep a modicum of perspective.

I just can’t stand uber-Catholics dictating as if they are the new magisterium - which Gerald and other bloggers appeared to have done  many times - so when they derail, I may mention it here.

Gerald is thinking of quitting the blog, so go tell him not to be such a puss.

Again, I doubt my posts had much to do with this controversy, RCblog  pretty much swept sweeps week with his rather intense expose (treatise) on the evils of CIC and everything queer.  Don’t ever tell me  ’me thinks she protests too much’, much less ask, ‘what’s with all the gay stuff?’ ever again.

So anyway - just because you disagree with a blogger, don’t demand their execution.  You realize blogs are simply the author’s (contributor’s ) opinion, right?  I mean, I never heard a Pope say, “Save this or that -  save the world” - yet some one with no real job or assignment repeats a similar mantra, and people think it is Church teaching.  Another guy tells you the Lord is telling him to do this or that on such and such day - fine - whatever - remember, a lot of these people do not have real jobs, they have nothing else to do!  (Just like me!  LOL!)  So remember what I always say - a blog is a blog is a blog - and Gertrude Stein was a dyke.

Terry, I’ve noticed that when it comes to GA you’re a bit like a horse who’s got a burr under his saddle.

The issue of Gerald’s stance on gayness and gay unions is one thing. His open hostility towards Mexicans, and other persons of Spanish speaking provenance is quite another. He is eager to embrace the gay as brother, yet he incites and inveighs against the Hispanic. Basically, he gives faux-Catholic misguidance with his red meat and beer fueled “speak English or go back to Mexico” ideology to those who fear an alien planet, a planet in which the Anglophone risks becoming the alien himself. Sort of like Will Smith in the recent adaptation of Omega Man.

Being outspokenly pro-gay is just ONE of Gerald’s inconsistencies with Catholic social teaching.

His xenophobia is perhaps the greater offense. YET, again few if any of the self-proclaimed “good Catholics” critique him on THAT point but are fixated on the gayness issue which IMHO speaks volumes about the wrong headed focus of many of those folk.

Dymphna - Well ain’t you nothin’! LOL! That is very astute of you to notice. Yes, your analogy is perfect - many things annoy me about his opinions on issues such as healthcare, immigration, blegging, and so on. I just hate to see someone trounced online as badly as he seems to have been beat up now.

Leorufus - I know what you mean. I actually want him to stay online because I believe his views are typical of many average Catholics in the pew - some who care about how Mass is celebrated and some who don’t - yet they still disagree with Catholic social teaching.

The notion of the cafeteria opened or closed is kind of silly, because I have noted uber-Catholics picking and choosing what they want on their traditional plate as well.

Anyway - I hope he stays on line - I like writing about him.

I just wish he would change the name of his blog.

Son of a! ONCE I did a fund raising drive - almost two years ago! Mark Shea and Rocco Palmo do ‘em all the time. I advertise my business, is all. Although now I probably have better luck photographing gay weddings in SF than getting customers via the blog :P

Opposing illegal immigration - for many reasons - is not the same as being hostile. Opposing La Raza is not the same as being hostile. “Xenophobia” is an idiotic accusation. I am an immigrant. That I am not fond of millions hopping the border is not xenophobia.

I have nothing against Mexicans. Just yesterday we ate at Chevy’s.

    Yes, that was a joke.

Terry’s got a man-crush on me, what can I say. Sorry, dahling, I am married :) To a woman. She is a dissenter, too, heresy creates such a special bond.

  6. Terry Nelson Says:

So you found me out Gerald! - And I knew she was a dissenter. ;)

I don’t think you are heretics though.

  7. Gerald Augustinus Says:

That’s very kind. I guess a swift painful death is in order then rather than burning at the stake :)

  8. tara Says:

We all have different opinions, sheesh. He should continue to blog.

  9. Dominic Says:

That’s right ,go ahead and joke.
You might just be eating those mocking words in future.
Your arrogance is incredible;your hubris worthy of that stake you say is waiting for you.
I sincerely hope that God takes your case as one of temporary insanity, and lets you off.
I however will continue to watch and wait for the next in your series of offenses.

    Dominic.

God blogs, and goes by “Dominic?”

    Weird!

    Oh, for crying out loud….

    I’ve never been so entertained.

Poor Gerald. He’s a good guy, but he’s not a theologian; never was, nor has he ever claimed to be. However, he’s got a good point that his blog may have lost its raison d’etre. He’s been wrong on lots of other issues in the past, but on those he always took the right-wing side of wrong. (I was always particularly disturbed by the hatred I read in his posts and in the commentaries towards the entire Islamic world, as well as his promotion of war and the idea of Mighty America eradicating Islam from the face of the earth–the reason I quit reading him.) But when he was doing that, his so-called Catholic readership stayed strong. However, this is the first time he’s gone to the left, so he is finally catching the flack from his readers — most of whom confuse the US government with the Magisterium. But I suppose it was inevitable. Once that old pendulum of imbalance get pulled to right, it’s not long before it swings to left.

  14. leorufus Says:

    Georgette:

I agree with you. As long as Gerald adhered to the neoconservative agenda on God, Guns and Illegal Aliens he did well with his dittohead readers. Now that he has gone soft on sodomy these same readers have turned on him. Which speaks more to the readership than to Gerald.

Don’t like it when the help “speaks Mexican” at your Motel 6? You’re alright by me brother Gerald. Second amendment, good by me. Hate those mister potato head liturgies? Yeah me too. Gay marriages are okay? Whu’ thu?!, whoa there Gerald you ain’t a good Catholic after all.

It is another form of catholic cafeterianism, just this one is right wing and pretends to be republican and has confused commentator Lou Dobbs with the Magisterium.

  15. Jeron Says:

Wow, Terry. You got Dominic to post a comment. I think he follows Gerald around so he can try & pull his trousers down.

    He’s such a tweaker.

  16. Dominic Says:

    Yeah,sure.
And i’ve come to expect nothing but cheap sexual double entendres from the likes of you ‘’jeron'’.
the standard fall-back tactic of a sexual criminal.

  17. Jeron Says:

    LOL! “TWEAK!”
