Pier Giorgio is going abroad…

He will be in Australia for World Youth Day.

It was announced on Friday the relics of Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati will be in Australia for World Youth Day.  You know what that means don’t you?  His entire body will be there.  Pier Giorgio is uncorrupted - thus his body was never mutilated for relics.  In effect it is the same ‘happening’ as the ‘transfer of his relics’ to and from Australia - you know, they once made feast days out of such occasions.  I think that is extraordinary.

Pier Giorgio Frassati was born in Turin, Italy, on April 6, 1901 and was raised in a very rich Catholic family.  During his adolescence he cultivated a profound spiritual life and became an active member of Catholic Action, the apostolate of prayer, the Eucharistic League and the Association of University Student Adorers.

He lived an austere live and gave a large portion of his money to the poor.  He was an intrepid athlete, skier and mountain climber.

When he turned 24, he was diagnosed with a terminal illness which claimed his life in only one week.  He died on July 4, 1925 and was buried at the cathedral of Turin.

His relic will be transported to Sydney on June 19 and will be placed in the church of St. Benedict. - CNA

So if anyone in Australia is able to venerate his relic - remember his feast day is July 4th.

[Did you know Pier Giorgio took the name Jeronimo (Girolamo) when he entered the III Order Dominicans?  It was in honor of Savonarola, whom he took as his patron.]

Excuse me please, I have a request.

Hi, my name is Terry, and I’m a people pleaser.

Hi Terry!

So anyway, if you respond to a post I write, albeit you disagree with me or the teaching of the Church, will you at least be civil in your response?  Some people who read this blog are offended.  Yes, by my posting content.  And yes, by commenter’s remarks.

So please try to avoid profanity, mocking Church teaching and other people’s beliefs, avoid telling other commenters that they are stupid and that type of thing.  Please be civil and charitable in your comments - if you hate what I write, please do not read me, I do not want to offend anyone.  My greatest concern in life is the salvation of my soul and the souls of others - nothing else.

You are welcome to insult me, mock me, swear at me, ridicule me, or do and say whatever you want against me, but please do not insult my guests.

Thank you very much.  Thank you and God bless you.

[I've lost a few links - but I blame myself for not editing comments.]

The ride into town.

Psalm 1

When I left the monastery, Br. Stephen drove me into town to catch the bus home to Minneapolis.  He was very concerned for me, I could tell.  He wanted to give me something to keep me safe, to make sure I never ventured off the path of salvation.  Br. Stephen was one of the few monks I knew who had memorized the entire psalter, and he recited psalm 1 to me as his parting gift, urging me to observe it:

Happy indeed is the man

who follows not the counsel of the wicked;

nor lingers in the way of sinners

nor sits in the company of scorners, but whose delight is the law of the Lord

and who ponders his law day and night…
