Memories…
So once upon a time…
In 1972, when I returned to the Church, and for several years afterwards, I was warned consistently to stay away from Latin Mass people - even those who celebrated the Novus Ordo in Latin. Yes, “Stay away from St. Agnes and the Wanderer types.” Indeed, even in the monastery, Latin was no longer important, except for a few hymns and antiphons on special feast days.
I am not kidding - it was considered pre-Vatican II and therefore evil. Yes, I was taught as much.
Today, the SSPX is close to reconciling, the Alpine Redemptorists have been regularized by Rome, and Anglicans, who frequently use the Latin rite, are expected to return to communion with Rome.
So. Which pope deserves the title “Great”?
Just a thought.

Amen to that!

I think Papa Benny is the man.

Hit the nail on the head Terry! He’s done more in 3 years then others have done with many more years.

Lord, if we could have 25 years with this man!
Viva il Papa!

You can’t turn an ocean liner on a dime.
I’m of the opinion that JPII created the environment that has allowed these wonderful things to happen and that our current Holy Father has taken advantage of that environment.
They’re both great.

I could say we’ve had two in a row. But I prefer the designations that are already surfacing. John Paul the Great and Benedict the Magnificent.

I think Pope JP II was fantastic, but I think the pendulum is [without a doubt] swinging toward Pope Benedict.

Our Pope rocks!

One can never have enough misogynist, homophobic trads with a penchant for antisemitism. All hail Bishop Williamson.
Enjoy.

Two, count’em, TWO great Popes in a row! JP2 and Benny16, both steadily working towards the health of Christ’s church.
The Catholic church needs this so badly to fight the embedded fifth columnists in our midst.
At the very least, the church needs to be shepherded through the last remaining shoals of aging boomers and their Birkenstock dance moves!
May the Anglicans hop the Tiber soon and welcome back!

Wow, Gerald, you’ve swallowed the whole dissenting spiel now– hook, line and sinker, eh?

I could not agree more. (And you left out the ever more cordial relations between the Catholic Chruch and the Orthodox…)
PapaRatz is IT.

I think they are both fantastic and will be remembered for centuries! JPII set the table for B16!

I remember the day Papa Benny was voted in. I went to Mass that night in thanksgiving. Father was in the confessional waiting and we could hear him whistling! Never happened before and hasn’t happened since.
LONG LIVE THE HOLY FATHER!!!!!!

I agree - they are a team - JPII and B16… they have worked together for many years.

“They are a team”–
Oh, Terry, I LIKE that. Amen.
We all (all who actually believe John knew what he was saying, “God is love,”) fell to our knees in misty joyous thanksgiving when the name came after “Habemus Papem,” and rightly so. And all trads and sedes and sede-privs and even any Raelians whose most exciting hobby is sifting JP II for evil, need to don their fedoras and veils (and head globes) and go to some licit confessor for having tempted me with so many thoughts of boxing their ears (with small but irate alligators).
