Feast of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel.

“Come over to me all of you and you will be filled with my fruits.”- Sirach 24:18

“And blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus!” - Luke 1:42

I have loved today’s feast from my earliest youth, I was only 4 years old when I became acquainted with the scapular of Mt. Carmel, and therefore, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel.

I also love this image of Our Lady.  Thanks to Elena for posting it.

I picked up a new scapular yesterday at a gift shop of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in the Bronx. I have not always been faithful to wearing a scapular but I love the tradition. Thanks for sharing your devotion to this image! Happy Feast Day and God bless!

I’ve often wished that I had enough self discipline to wear the scapular. My grandmother wore one until the day she died. Her oldest sister, whom she adored, became a Carmelite nun and Grandmother’s devotion to Our Lady of Mount Carmel began the day her sister took final vows. After Grandmother’s funeral, my grandfather gave me the scapular in a little jeweled box. I often take it out and hold it while I’m saying the rosary. It just makes me feel closer to two people I’m sure are in heaven!
Terry: The picture you posted brings back a lot of memories. When I began teaching many moons age, my first school was called Our Lady of Mount Carmel. In the entrance foyer there was a large picture that looked similar to yours, if not the same one. The principal was from the Ursuline order and her name was Sister Mary Elizabeth of the Holy Rosary. She was a wonderful person and without a doubt the best principal to work for that I ever had. She was enormously popular with the students and actually with all the teachers in the School Board. She was affectionately known throughout the system as Betty of the Beads from Fudge Hill! Believe me, it was not meant in a derogatory way and she herself would introduce herself that way. One other word. She was not a liberal nun whatsoever, she just had a great sense of humour, and wore her full habit until she died ten years ago.
