Paul VI and Same Sex Marriage

Conjugal acts.

To my knowledge, Pope Paul VI never directly addressed the issue of same sex marriage - mainly because in 1968 it was an unheard of idea.  Nevertheless, a close reading of his encyclical Humanae Vitae certainly provides a clear indication of Church teaching regarding marriage and the conjugal act…  And homosexual activity and gay “marriage” just doesn’t meet the criteria.

Homosexual acts are not open to life.

“11. …the Church, calling men back to the observance of the norms of the natural law, as interpreted by their constant doctrine, teaches that each and every marriage act (quilibet matrimonii usus) must remain open to the transmission of life.” - PPVI

The two meanings of the conjugal act.

“12. That teaching, often set forth by the magisterium, is founded upon the inseparable connection, willed by God and unable to be broken by man on his own initiative, between the two meanings of the conjugal act: the unitive meaning and the procreative meaning.  Indeed, by its intimate structure, the conjugal act, while most closely uniting husband and wife, capacitates them for the generation of new lives, according to laws inscribed in the very being of man and of woman. By safeguarding both these essential aspects, the unitive and the procreative, the conjugal act preserves in its fullness the sense of true mutual love and its ordination towards man’s most high calling to parenthood.   We believe that the men of our day are particularly capable of seeing the deeply reasonable and human character of this fundamental principle.” - PPVI

Now, these two boys in the picture look too skinny to be of much use on the farm. But a little work bailing hay and solid food will beef them boys right up. Sugar cane and hay look good and appreciate the gift of heavy rain of Hurricane Dolly. The water is receding from the drainage ditches at Rancho Leo and other than a few mesquite branches down and a coconut tree that laid on its side, not too bad. Valley Girls, the stripper club, got flooded bad, hee hee, God does answer prayer!

Male and female He created them, I recall that is written in the scriptures somehwhere. Now, while the secular state does allow for these unnatural (disordered) unions to be legally recognized, this does not give them legitimacy in the eyes of God or Christians. Now, what is the Christian supposed to do when Adam and Steve (or Holly and Eve) move in next door? This is the question, for the State this is fait accompli, so proposing this is a done deal, what is the ethical and moral duty to the observant Catholic who may find themselves with such a happy couple as neighbors?

On another note, I have observed that most male persons of my acquaintance who are willing to be “tolerant” of gay unions are just that, tolerant, “live and let live and stay off my property”. I usually don’t find true blue married men and unmarried men who like women out “protesting too much” in favor of the issue. For most men, this is not an issue that one is willing to go to bat for (as for instance second amendment issues) and the usual responses range from cool indifference to absolute revulsion. Thus straight guys (especially married ones, and particularly those who have children) who take up this cause with vehemence are a curiosity to me, they “protest too much”.

Dear Mr.Terry, What I was thinking about were those old Baptist tent revivals with a packed house where people are getting saved right ,and left. They would encounter miracles manufactured or otherwise. I wouldn’t want anyone to get hurt or worse. I did not express myself well.

I would like to see a big group together like that have a religious encounter with the almighty. I will try to write better . Thanks for removing it.

Thanks for the Don Marco post.

I knew that the gate was wide to hell ,but I didn’t comprehend the magnitude of people that will go to hell. I am so very, very sad .
I played with the numbers in my head I figured 100ish sent to hell with 50ish sent to heaven, but no it may be more like 1,000 to hell and 5 to heaven.Maybe worse!
Now my odds don’t look so great.
Okay this isn’t a time for me to panic. I will call for Divine Mercy. Now, and I am buying a scapula ASAP.
I will notify my loved ones of my personal discovery ,thanks to you.
I will see you all at confession tomorrow. Don’t get in line behind me cause I am bringing my list. Yeah I know I am not supposed to bring a list , but I get scared and freeze up.

The elect of God, those with a predilection for salvation, are encouraged to chastity and purity for the purposes of salvation as well as conversation with God in this life. Those who think the Church condemns sexual impurity out of a misguided of prudishness, have missed the point. In his pristine state of grace, Man is the Temple of the Holy Spirit and so bears this person of the Trinity in an imperfect manner in this life but will bear Him perfectly after the Resurrection. We do not become worthy of this Most Holy Guest if we profane his Temple and make it a place of offering to false gods of pleasure, luxuriousness and lust.
