I’m not sure how someone can turn into such an animal and do something so vile.

This murder sadden me yesterday morning.
T- this image of the Virgin (Madonna Blue) by Sassoferrato is one I own. We have been told it appears to be painted on a vellum and may have been done by a student of Sassoferrato … there is no signature (he didn’t sign many of his pieces, so we been told too). We know it originated from Italy and we have the name of the previous Italian owner/region (Altea Luzi, Viale Regina Vittoria 22) of this precious piece. I came upon it at a roadside antique shop (found it in a shoebox full of stuff) during a road trip break coming back from my younger sister’s funeral …her name was Mary. While my older sister and I cleaned out her apartment we noticed she had a collection of pictures framed of the Virgin.
This image is very appropriate for this sad posting.

I saw this sad story, too. Having just come from Hyderabad, I really feel for them. I know that there is a big Carmelite women’s community there. I imagine the Nazi-like extremists hindu group, the BJP, or something similar, are behind this murder, as they are also apparently behind the murder of the Salesian priest in Nepal.

pml, I thought this looked like Sassoferrato! So cool that you think your copy may be an original by him.
I am sorry for your loss in the death of your younger sister. May she rest in eternal peace and may Jesus and His Mother comfort you and your family.

Your thoughts, Georgette, are greatly appreciated.
The Sassoferrato image I have is most likely from a student of his vs an original. From my quick research years ago, I read that the art experts believe all of his known works have been catalogued. So I am sure this image is in there somewhere.
With that said, I also have been told by an auction house in Chicago that Sassoferrato did not sign many of his pieces making it difficult for the experts. He was known for his varnishes, as well as painting in miniature sizes. Mine is a small piece and is varnished … but then again, some student could have done it. I am just happy to have the image.
