“Bastard people…”

(Pictured, my favorite unwed mother, Rachel from “Friends”)
.
Kids out of wedlock.
.
Who doesn’t know someone - either relatives, friends, co-workers, politicians - or their  kids, who have sex or live together without benefit of marriage, have children out of wedlock, or is just a single woman who simply wants a kid - and goes and has one.
.
These children were once called “illegitimate”; their status having been noted upon their birth certificate. In addition, the more ancient appellation “bastard” was used in regard to children born of an irregular union. It is definitely not politically correct to use these terms today. Kids shouldn’t be labeled because of the sins of their parents. Even though they are affected by the parents lack of morality.
.
At least they chose to keep the baby.
.
If a poor woman gets pregnant, someone will take care of her; such as welfare, the Church, or some pro-life agency. If she is rich, or has a great job, she can have her cake and eat it too. Thankfully, unwed mothers are no longer turned out on the street. Childless couples will find them in order to adopt their babies, oftentimes paying all their expenses and more. Pro-life workers will do anything to help the woman carry the child to term. That’s a good thing, to be sure. But are we somehow encouraging illicit births in the process?
.
Is it so bad morally that we just give a blanket blessing to everyone, no matter the circumstances surrounding a pregnancy out of wedlock? Are we so held hostage to the threat of abortion and infanticide that we give up moral imperatives and direction?  Is immorality to be affirmed because an element of shame might enter into the dilemma of pregnancy outside of wedlock - compelling a woman or girl to kill her child?  It all seems rather morally irresponsible - don’t you think?
.
Yeah - so like the only sin is abortion now days?
.
I’ve been in a workplace situation where a single woman announced she was pregnant - actually, that same single woman announced it twice in two years. The entire office got all excited and congratulated her effusively, they encouraged her and just carried on with attention and gifts. The woman was not married - never had been, the pregnancies were by two different dads…  So like something is wrong with that picture, don’t you think?
.
Republican family values.
.
Is the American dream-works myth now telling parents and kids it is okay to have sex and get pregnant out of wedlock?  That there is nothing wrong with pre-marital sex and getting pregnant - especially if you plan to marry the father?

Thanks Leo - you make very good points. I’m not saying it is an unforgiveable sin - to be sure. It will be interesting how this message is received and interpreted all around however. Especially since chastity and celibacy is required for so many sub-sets of persons in the Church.

I agree!, And this sin is like a cootie that continues to pass through to even more
    generations like an infection.

Kinda like “Mono” your sick ,and tired only you don’t know it ,even so, you keep making the people around you sick, and nobody knows what’s happening, you just keep passing it around.

What will the future of families look like in 50 years? Multi colored, and riddled with disease inside ,and out?

This is very much the “norm” to have children with different fathers.

(Genealogists are gonna get their panties in a twist trying to sort all of this out in the future.)

For some reason women believe that a child validates their relationship with a man. They think that babies “sanction” relationships ,and “Sanctifies”
    relationships.

A child seems to give value to the relationship when there never was any value in the relationship to begin with.
Women don’t understand that a child can’t make a relationship more worthy or correct. Only the sacrament of “Holy Matrimony ” can do that.

This is another one of those “faux” feelings. One in which Satan is trying to replace what Christ has sanctioned as Holy ,and true ,yet again twisting our minds away from Christ ,and his real purposes for us ,causing up more pain.

We birth control our children out of existence, we kill the babies that we dont want.We mistreat the ones that we do want, and we sleep with who ever catches our eye. We are sick to the core.

Isn’t it funny that with all of these romantic encounters on t.v. that characters never get V.D….Maybe, A.I.D.s for a more empathic story line, but never the real down ,and dirty stuff.

Satan is brilliant ,in a demonic stupid kind of way.
Yet I feel that his time is running out. I think that he knows it too, so he is frantically adding souls to his collection while there is still time ,and the poor souls don’t even have a clue.

Reaping the fruit of the 1960’s.

This song is even better if you take drugs first. Do you have any drugs Mr.Terry, fess up I know artists often do, so my adult artist kid tells me.

Never mind I dont want to know nor do I want to be lead into sin. Which is what is happening here.

Drugs ,and this song just go together. :)

Mr.Crosby didn’t need a new liver for ‘nothing.

Terry, you’re turning into below pictured Church Lady.

Pre-marital sex isn’t exactly a new concept. In the good old days, many a ’shamed’ young woman would kill herself if she got pregnant ‘out of wedlock’. ‘Bastards’ suffered horrid discrimination. Or they ended up in one of those scary Madeleine homes. There is always something to scoff at in every age, but judging people over sex, not to mention with getting married, is not something to be pined for.

Btw, Palin Jr.’s fiance will be at the Convention tomorrow.

YOu’ve hit on something I’ve been thinking about for some time. In our bid to make abortion a rarity, we stumble over ourselves to welcome all pregnancies, welcoming the mothers and their babies in hopes they are not aborted. And as you point out, in doing so, we send the message that there are no other sins besides abortion. But we need to promote the virtues of Chastity and Purity and Modesty in the same breath that we welcome these unwed mothers. To do it all in charity is the key, but we have to be careful not to go overboard in the other direction. It’s a fine line we must walk. Like everything else in the spiritual life.

Maybe because we do not promote and live these Virtues ourselves, we are reluctant to speak about it when we are presented with someone who is dealing with the natural consequence of living a life contrary to Virtue. It’s a sign of our whole culture’s spiritual sloth/disease. May the Holy Spirit stir us up to live a life of holiness.

  7. Terry Nelson Says:

Georgette - At last, someone who gets what I’m trying to say. Thanks.

  8. elena maria vidal Says:

Terry, the Palins are certainly not trying to justify their daughter’s sinful behavior. They are trying to make the best of it. It was prudent of them to announce it when they did since the information would have become public anyway. Better now than closer to the election.

Well, I guess the course of action that would please some people is to ship the daughter off, hide her somewhere until after the baby is born and then try to pretend the whole thing did not happen. That’s how it would have been handled a hundred years ago.

Just because people like myself are not ready to stone Bristol Palin(who will soon be married) does mean that we approve of premarital sex.

    CORRECTION:
“Just because people like myself are not ready to stone Bristol Palin(who will soon be married) does NOT mean that we approve of premarital sex.”

Hmm, in my case it was painkillers ;) (I’d hurt my back 2 days before the wedding)
