Expiration dates for blogs.

Several people seem to be quitting.

I think Gerald of the ol’ Cafeteria has finally dropped out completely.  Looks like Crescat has too.  (I won’t bother linking to them because there is nothing to link to.  Oops!  Crescat is still there!)  I know Luminous Miseries has closed, along with several others.  Regular long-term bloggers have cut way back on their posts as well.  Some people have quit because they have returned to their old way of life - which wasn’t all that Catholic.  Others because they are probably just burned out.

I once did a post on how I think blogs are like sitcoms - I said they should have short-runs to be effective - no more than a few seasons - otherwise the writing suffers.  (None of the blogs I mentioned or those in my blogroll of course!)  I also think the average person who writes a personal blog writes just about all they know in a two to three year time frame, after that, they start becoming redundant.  If it is a current events and personal opinion blog, that too can get a little predictable and tired after awhile.

Now all of the above may apply to me - although strangely enough, I still think I have something left to say - so perhaps I may have some relevancy left.  That said - I’ve pretty much alienated most of my readers anyway - so who would notice if I stopped.

I did a post like this last year and I’m still blogging… and laughing.

We need to appoint some more blog “conversation starters”, people like Cathy who excel at rants guaranteed to generate a couple of dozen comments and inspire others to rant on a contrary issue.

Maybe if we paid them by the word. Many here would be thrilled to get paid by the word. It would be no extra effort for them to make a nice secondary income for themselves.

Sell more ads! That’s what capitalists do. Are we bloggers too socialist?

Say it ain’t so, Joe! I mean, Terry.
You can blog ’til the day of death and never be boring.
Everything is new and interesting when viewed with the eyes of the Gospel.

The “say it ain’t so” was meant: say it ain’t so that you’re going to quit.
It’s funnier when said in person.:>

No, no, no - Crescat is still there…..

And you can’t go away quite yet. I’m not through with you :)

Gerald’s blog was just a shadow of its former incarnation anyway.

It’s all about me, isn’t it? You don’t love me anymore!

And here I thought you loved me…that you REALLY REALLY LOVED me!

Im still there, in some psuedo masochist form … it is hard to maintian a blog and keep it fresh. I’ve scaled back considerably, though our new fruher has given me a fresh hell of apocalyptic doom to blog about. :-P

Terry, it is possible that some bloggers have left bc they realized the egocentric nature of personal blogs and have left to become holy hermits. That was mine plan… notice the past tensed. :-)

Actually, I am writing a book… about apocalyptic doom and gloom, naturally.

Kat - I just finished a post about going on a break again - it echoes your comment here - let’s pray for one another!
